Starting a Blog in 2020 That Actually Makes Money - Tips for Beginners

It's the new year which means that it is time to try some new things right new year new you and all that jazz so if you want to start a blog for the first time or take your current blog and turn it into something that can actually make money and be a functioning business in the comfort of your own home then keep watching I've got some tips for starting a blog in your 2020 new year.
Really quick I wanted to let you know that my blog into in course is officially available we've opened the doors and we are accepting new students we only do that a couple times each year so if you want to join you'll have to go to blogging to win calm before we close the doors at this date that you'll see here on the screen right now okay back to the video hey everyone AlysonLindstrom here of Allison Lindstrom common the first thing you really need to start with is a business plan so you have to stop looking at your blog as just this website that you're creating that’s goanna have some like fun pictures on it and you know enables you to tap into your creative spirit okay first and foremost you're always running a business so you need to have a business plan which means you need to start writing things down like who's your target audience, that is simply the people that you're trying to reach the most are they stay-at-home moms are they traveling people are they knitters are they bakers are they you know pet sitters.
Starting a Blog in 2020 That Actually Makes Money - Tips for Beginners

whatever your target audience is you need to have a very clearly defined paragraph that could point them out easily in a crowd right so you don’t want to just say well I'm targeting stay-at-home moms you'll want to say something along the lines of I’m targeting stay-at-home moms in particular that have five kids under the age of five or large families or something like that within that business plan you'll also want to have a Content plan that is a list of ideas of the things that you're going to post and you’ll also want to bounce around some product ideas so no functioning business out there is going to lack in offering products or services and/or services because technically you could do both so you want to be able to monetize your brand in some way outside of making money through the typical routes like ad revenue or affiliate income that is all good and well and I absolutely think you should have that within your business but it’s not the only thing you should have in your back pocket you should absolutely be monetizing just your brand on your own and also have control over how it is monetized that is having control over the products that you create or the services you offer so you can make money within your business plan it's also important to make sure that you clearly define your very specific niche .

So it's 2020 alright gone are the days where you can just be a mommy blogger or a personal finance blogger etc. and so forth you need to become very specific now part of identifying your specific niche is really just clearly defining your audience so the main group of people that you really want to reach so once you have that figured out it kind of ties in with your niche and you can clearly define what your very specific niche should be if you need some help trying to decide what kind of niche you want to choose I will leave a link down below I have over a hundred and sixty blog niche ideas they're not boring they’re very good ones so you’ll definitely want to check that out if you just need some brainstorming help tip number two is to always stick to your very specific niche okay never deviate from the niche that you have chosen so if you have been a paleo food blogger for busy moms for the past five years or even the past year or the past month and you know for sure and for certain that that specific niche is the one that you want to stick to for the next ten years then that's what you have to stick tokay so if you start having a sudden passion for knitting or maybe you’ve always had the passion but now you want on start writing about it you can’t integrate those two topics because they’re simply too different ok people that are looking for paleo recipes and our busy moms are not necessarily interested in knitting so if that is the case and you feel that God is truly calling you to write about those two separate topics then God is also telling you to start to separate blogs okay tip number three start brainstorming product and/or service ideas from day number one and if you've been blogging for 300 days then start right now like I mentioned in tip number one being able to have complete control over something that youkan make money from is very powerful in business and it enables you to have a lot of freedom so while creating products or offering services can be time-consuming and very draining and stressful that can also be one of the biggest money may within your blogging business when you depend on things like ad revenue you’re really chaining yourself to a couple of different elements that are out of your control what time of the year is it because advertisers will pay more around Christmas time and then how many page views are you getting each month because that's going to dictate how much you're making that's fine and you can work within those guidelines but you need to diversify your income streams in order to actually make more money and so the number one thing.

Starting a Blog in 2020 That Actually Makes Money

I would suggest to you is that if I had to choose one way that I was going to make money on my blog it would be through products and/or services so I would create my own online courses or eBooks or workbooks or things of that nature or on the other end of the spectrum I could offer consulting or some sort of service to someone else a VA service a Pinterest VA service it's just important to be able to have more control over how youkan make your money tip number four you need to get help when you can eat a slice of humble pie my friend if you are not good at creating Pinterest pins and it takes you 10 times longer than it really should you're wasting time creating Pinterest pins they're an integral part of your business you need to have good looking social media graphics but that's something that you could easily hire out now in the beginning of your blogging journey and I did the same thing you're not likely to actually spend loads of money I am very frugal I like to just pinch those pennies whenever I can I like to keep them in my own pocket so I understand that hiring out some of those tasks in the beginning is not going to be something that you can do that's okay you can hustle and work hard right now and eventually get to the point to where you can hire out some duties so if you need help with your book keeping or writing content or creating social media graphics keep that in mind find the shortcuts as best as you can right now do with your own skills

What you can and then eventually work to the point where you can hire that out because the main thing is you're the CEO you're not somebody that should be doing those just tiny minor details that take up a lot of your time you should be focusing on the bigger picture stuff and so this is just something to keep in mind tip number five be true to your authentic self and never steal anyone else’s ideas now Alike I really had to put this tip on there because more often than it should happen I find that people steal ideas from other bloggers they steal ideas from me they steal ideal from the ideas from anyone else because and I'm sure they look at it as a shortcut so when someone steals a blog post idea that’s very authentic to me it's something that’s very specific to just Alison Lindstrom and it's not your typical you know five tips for starting a new blog you know that's everyone does something like that but if it's very specific to Alison Lindstrom and I see somebody else take it does hurt a little bit because I'm like hey I worked hard to come up with that authentic content you shouldn’t be stealing that you know but in the long run I look at what's truly happening there you're stealing from your authentic self so if you're smart enough and you have the time to go steal someone else's ideas then you're smart enough to come up with your own ideas now I know you guys who follow me here on the Alison Lindstrom Channel I know you’re not going to be stealing ideas so.

I wanted to include this last tip as appoint as just a reminder to say when you see another blogger that's in your niche and they have something that's truly authentic resist the temptation to just carbon copy it to your own website because one that is stealing and two it just takes away from your own brand readers are not foolish so they will catch on to the fact that someone else’s kind of copycatting someone else’s blog and you don't want to do that because it totally stints your growth as a blogging business owners my recommendation when following this tip in particular is stop reading the blogs of the people that are in your specific niche I can't tell you when the last time was that I actually read or followed anybody that was within my immediate niche unless it like popped up somehow and my feet or something like that if I just naturally saw them in the algorithm feeds that occur on social media right so outside of that I don’t voluntarily seek out any other bloggers that are within my niche because I’m terrified that later on it's going to spark an idea and I'm going to be like oh this Isa wonderful idea I should create this blog post and I'm like wait have I seen that somewhere and you want to avoid that as much as possible have a little faith in yourself you can absolutely come up with authentic content on your own hit the like button if you guys are excited to see where 2020 is going to bring your blog as always I'm Alison Lindstrom hit that subscribe button and ring the little bell so you don't miss any of the new videos coming out this year I will see you next time.
